Leif Tufvesson, co-founder of Nord C Yachts, has described his passion for special cars and yachts in an interview with the Swedish business magazine DI Weekend. The headline summarizes Leif in two words: Super Entrepreneur.
With the spectacular Batmobile – created for a Saudi customer – as a suitable backdrop, Leif talks about some of the projects that have made him famous among special car lovers all over the globe.
In addition to the 560-horsepower Batmobile, Leif also covers his Caresto V8 Speedstar. The hot rod that won the prestigious ‘Al Slonaker Memorial Award, Most Innovative Vehicle’ in 2008.
“In the automotive world, that’s a bit like an Oscar,” Leif explains.
Leif’s latest baby on wheels – an iconic Volvo P1800 with an all-electric powertrain – brings the interview into another electrifying project; the Nord C Fortyfive Yacht, which will blend the best of the yachting world with the standards of modern supercars.
In addition to this direction, Nord C Yachts also breaks new ground in the boating world by combining outstanding luxury with a truly circular approach to design, development, production, distribution and use.
The 45-foot luxury day cruiser will have an electric engine combined with a range extender for clean power and safety at sea. Leif tells the reporter:
“The hull will be made of recycled aluminium and we are also investigating the possibility to replace plastic details with 3D printed components made of wood fibre.”
“Today’s yachts may look expensive and exclusive, but many of them lack premium quality when you look closer at materials, fit and finish. The automotive industry is way ahead in these areas, and we will bring all our experience from building special cars into the yachting world.”
Leif has founded Nord C Yachts AB together with Thomas Andersson, Head of Business Transformation at Volvo Cars.
Leif says: “I met Thomas and discovered that we have a lot in common when we created the Hot Rod Jakob for Volvo in 2007. We have a passion for projects that stand out, we love boats and believe that a sustainable approach has a great future both on the roads and on the seas. We have discussed this idea for a while, and now is the right time to make it happen.”
